Peacebuilding Institute
An Overview of the Peacebuilding Institute
Founded in 1988 by James L. Foster, the Peacebuilding Institute (PI) is a volunteer organization committed to maintaining an online network of peace workers all over the world. This is a group of independent organizations from many nations which have chosen to network together for the purpose of mutual support and encouragement in our worldwide quest for peace.
The Peacebuilding Institute serves these affiliates through providing them virtual space online through the Peacebuilding Institute website, under the tab “Affiliates.” Each affiliate is entirely autonomous, with its own program and governance, and each affiliate chooses when and how to work in concert with others in ways that are mutually beneficial in advancing the cause of global peace.
Peacebuilding Institute of East Tennessee
The founding and local affiliate of this worldwide network is the Peacebuilding Institute of East Tennessee (PIET), and our goals are to:
- incorporate principles of non-violence into daily living;
- foster and cultivate peace in our personal lives as well as our neighborhoods;
- bring together the network of local peace organizations; and
- be an active and visible presence in peace events in East Tennessee.
Regular meetings are monthly on Second Sundays from 2:00-3:00 at Church of the Savior (UCC). Details of regular meetings and other PIET events are best found on the PIET Facebook Page. Please make sure to “like” us and select to receive our notifications in your News Feed.
